Assistant Supervisor, Transportation
Summary
Coordinates and oversees training, remedial, safety, and instructional programs for school bus drivers including State and District required training and testing; Performs all aspects of accident investigation and reporting and safety support as required in daily transportation operations; Assists supervisors with daily transportation operational activities involving schools, bus drivers, bus assistants, to include routing, in field observations, parent response, and response to public
Essential Duties
- Coordinates and oversees classroom instructional programs for driver trainers and bus assistants to include State required curriculum, CDL written test materials, CDL pre-trip and basic skills requirements
- Coordinates classroom, and hands on remedial training programs for veteran drivers
- Performs all aspects of accident investigation, and reporting
- Inspects and evaluates safety conditions involving bus stops, route design, school bus loading zones, road conditions, traffic control
- Ensures updated Offender List information is provided on a monthly or as needed basis to Coordinator and Supervisors
- Assists zone Supervisors in development, implementation and maintenance of Edulog student routing and management to include regular programs, special needs, summer programs, and all special programs
- Assists with daily transportation operations activities involving schools, drivers, bus assistants, parents and public
- Assists with supervision of various bus driver duties to ensure student safety, high efficiency, and a high level of service
- Assists supervisors with in field assessments and monitoring of full time drivers, part time drivers, and bus assistants
- Assists supervisors with communication involving learning communities, stakeholders, and staff
- Functions as a bus driver as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Certification/Licensure
Experience Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of successful experience in transportation required; experience in pupil transportation preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to safe bus operation
- Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel
- Must have basic computer skills
- Good decision making skills and problem solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Good communication skills both written and verbal

- Ability to routinely perform activities such as lifting, bending, sitting, and standing for long periods of time
- May have to lift 50lbs or more if need arises to drive a bus
