Assistive Technology Support Teacher

Summary

Provides direct service, instructional support, and training to stakeholders regarding assistive technology and instructional supports in the areas of academics, communication and physical access

Essential Duties

  • Collaborates to develop and deliver professional development regarding software and/or equipment for students with disabilities in the areas of learning, communication, physical access
  • Provides support for feature matching and selection of appropriate assistive technology to increase student independence
  • Serves as an assistive technology resource to students and teams with IEP or 504 plans
  • Supports and promotes the personalized learning initiative through identification and training of universal design for learning (UDL) features available on school supported devices
  • Merges current technology trends with assistive technology in the educational setting
  • Manages, organizes, and maintains equipment inventory and confidential student records
  • Manages, maintains and deploys devices apps and /or equipment
  • Participates in professional development to maintain and enhance skills
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree

Certification/Licensure

Must hold a valid Georgia Special Education teaching certificate or licensure in occupational therapy or speech language pathology

Experience Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience using specialized software and/or assistive technology for students with disabilities is required; Experience instructing adults preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledgeable regarding the Georgia Performance Standards, norm and criterion referenced assessments including the Georgia Alternative Assessment and developmental skill sequences
  • Experience and knowledge of assistive technology for students with learning, communication, visual impairments/blindness, and physical disabilities preferred
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of technology, computers, tablets, networks, and app deployment
  • Must possess technical expertise sufficient to troubleshoot technology and work with IT /vendors to solve issues
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with data collection and interpretation is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational skills
