Summary
The Campus Security Associate may be a school-based or administrative office position. The incumbent in this position supports and facilitates the educational process within the Fulton County School System by providing a safe and secure environment through monitoring of activity and patrolling of assigned location. The Campus Security Associate must maintain visibility and vigilance while establishing a rapport with students and staff and must be able to make sound decisions in emergency and non-emergency situations. The incumbent in this position may work rotational shifts to include days, nights, overnights, and/or weekends.
Essential Duties
- Patrols assigned areas and ensures safety of school campus, administrative buildings and grounds; Patrols campus/building and checks for unauthorized personnel; Checks for visitor and employee badges
- Works closely and cooperatively with the School Police Department in relationship to campus security issues
- Serves as a visible and active security presence on campus dealing with students who present challenges as these students may require supervision and direction to make positive choices to further their educational opportunities
- Assists with monitoring and regulates student behavior on campus, in cafeterias, restrooms, parking lots and other open areas; Assists the Administrative team with student disciplinary issues
- Assists with controlling disturbances or acts of defiance and requests assistance from school administration and/or school police when necessary
- Participates in risk identification and provides preventive options to the Administrative team; Assists the School Police Department and local law enforcement on crime prevention implementation
- Serves as a member of the campus safety team assisting with emergency preparedness drills, maintaining an emergency evacuation kit, providing input on the site-based safety plan, and providing school safety training, etc
- Assists the School Police Department in providing crowd control at extra-curricular activities and special events
- Assists with security equipment, school safety assessments and metal detection equipment, etc
- Serves as watch officer in the Emergency Operations Center; Virtually patrols all facilities in the District using Avigilon and GETru Nav video system; The use of this system requires a high level of technical awareness with computers and CATV systems
- Provides administrative security functions at our administrative center(s); including greeting our visitors and assisting them with signing in
- Assists visitors to our facilities with information, collects information and paperwork, provides overall customer service in support of the District administrative functions in our offices
- Provides visible and active security presence at District schools dealing with students, faculty, and staff; Assists with making positive decisions, provides supervision and supports the overall goal of education as assigned
- Serves as a member of the safety / audit team in assisting with safety / risk management audits under direction of District safety specialist or leadership
- Maintains paperwork related to activities
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Certification/Licensure
Experience Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of related work experience required; A combination of experience and college degree may be considered in lieu of 3 years of experience; Previous law enforcement or military experience preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of Fulton County Schools Board Policies, Student Code of Conduct and School Safety Plans
- Knowledge of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
- Excellent customer service skills are critical to the success of this role
- Demonstrated knowledge of technical and computer skills
- Ability to work with youth and adults
- Ability to diffuse differences through conflict resolution
- Must be able to effectively communicate with both public and school personnel
- Must be able to pass a criminal history and background investigation
Working Conditions
- Works rotational shifts to include days, nights, overnights
- Some travel between schools and administrative buildings
- Must be available to work at all District facilities as needed
- May require work in inclement weather
- May involve assignments in hostile environments
Physical Demands
- Must be able to walk, run, climb, crawl, or sit for extended periods of time
- Good hearing and vision needed
