Summary
Provides resource assistance to students with special needs in career and technical education classes/laboratories; Assists in facilitating transition from school to post-secondary education, employment and career opportunities
Essential Duties
- Organizes and provides instruction that will assist students with special needs in successfully entering and participating in all career and technical education programs
- Participates as a member of each student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) team and provides technology/career occupational input
- Assists in identifying students who may benefit from the CTI program
- Participates and assists in the development of the transition section of the IEP Assists in career and technical interest and aptitude assessment of students prior to enrolling them in the program
- Communicates with parents of CTI students regarding progress and/or any specific concerns encountered
- Maintains accurate records of all students and each student’s progress
- Utilizes community resources in meeting student objectives, and in meeting state and local requirements
- Works closely with post-secondary institutions to ensure a seamless transition
- Develops and maintains communication with industry representatives
- Adheres to all state guidelines required for the implementation of a successful program
- Provides classroom environment which promotes active learning in subject area
- Communicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership
- Accounts for student attendance and punctuality
- Supports students’ participation in appropriate Career and Technical Education Student Organization (CTSO Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures
- Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities
- Attends school and District-level professional learning activities as directed
- Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
- Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction
- Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree
Certification/Licensure
Must hold valid certification in Special Needs; CTI endorsement preferred or agreement to obtain CTI Certification within applicable time frame
Experience Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of occupational work experience in the field is preferred, but not required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Classroom management skills
- Knowledge of and familiarity with programs and resources providing transition assistance
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proven communication and instructional strategies

Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and carry 30-50 pounds with assistance
- Ability to push or pull a maximum of 50 pounds
- May require stooping or crouching
