Coordinator, HVAC Maintenance
Summary
The Coordinator, HVAC Maintenance provides leadership and supervision for the maintenance shop HVAC personnel and assists the Director, Maintenance Services in implementing the maintenance program for all District HVAC equipment. The Coordinator, HVAC Maintenance will act as the HVAC system expert for the District and will employ this knowledge to ensure suitable heating, air conditioning, ventilation, freezer and cooler components and system design requirements are met when equipment is repaired or replaced. This position is on-call on a 24-hour basis for emergency operations.
Essential Duties
- Ensures that existing physical plants of the Fulton County School System are maintained in a safe and comfortable condition by making expedient, sound decisions relating to HVAC equipment and controls maintenance operations
- Practices preventive maintenance techniques to prolong the life cycle of HVAC components in existing buildings and equipment
- Initiates solicitation and renewal of HVAC preventive maintenance and time-materials contracts
- Directs actions of the Utilities Scheduler as necessary to ensure that Energy Management Control System performance monitoring is routinely conducted, and that Maintenance Requests are generated when needed
- Performs site visits and consults with school principals and other administrators while visiting schools and other buildings
- Maintains a customer-focused perspective while communicating effectively with school personnel, superiors, subordinates, peers, vendors, and the public
- Coordinates the assignment of all work requests on a priority basis, evaluating the workload of foremen, tradesmen, secretaries, etc., to ensure work is performed in a timely manner
- Manages the affairs of the department in a fair, equitable manner that promotes positive employee morale
- Provides training as needed for HVAC mechanics and promotes in-service training for the Maintenance Department
- Maintains building system records in hard copy or electronic formats
- Monitors departmental practices, supplies and expenditures for efficient use of resources
- Practices and communicates FCS safety culture in the workplace
- Assists in long-range planning and budget preparation
- Recommends competent personnel for open positions
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Certification/Licensure
Experience Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of supervisory and/or administrative related experience and 3 additional years of related HVAC experience required or equivalent military service positions.

- Professional understanding of HVAC systems and equipment found in school buildings
- Able to read and interpret schematic and construction drawings
- Good computer skills, including database creation and management
- Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Must have the capacity to understand and work with personnel under his/her supervision, as well as with administrative personnel
- Must be able to assist in the development and implementation of long-range planning
- Good decision-making and problem solving skills
- Ability to develop implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives
