Summary
The Coordinator of Social Work Services provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all school social work programs and services to support the safety, attendance and achievement for students.
Essential Duties
- Provides leadership in the development of a comprehensive District-wide school social work program that supports regular student attendance, student safety, basic student needs, social/mental health for students and parent/family engagement in the educational process
- Provides leadership and professional learning on evidence and research-based strategies and programs that promote positive regular school attendance and social/mental health development of students
- Establishes, maintains and consistently utilizes local, regional, state and national agency partnerships to comprehensively support the needs of students and families
- Assists in the development and implementation of system and school crisis response plans/protocols
- Designs and implements a comprehensive professional learning program for School Social Workers that is aligned with system, departmental and school strategic plans
- Develops and implements a system wide professional learning program for all mandated reporters of child abuse
- Provides supervision, coaching, positive and corrective feedback as well as strategic goal setting for all School Social Workers and support staff
- Serves as school system’s Liaison for the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and actively works collaboratively with this agency to provide comprehensive levels of support to mandated reporters, schools and staff in the child abuse reporting process
- Serves as the system and departmental representative on local, regional and State child welfare consortiums, advisory boards and committees
- Provides support for the residency verification processes as well as provides technical guidance to Principals and school staff
- Provides ongoing training, technical guidance and interpretation for Principals, Social Workers and other school staff for rules, regulations and laws concerning matters of child custody, child abuse reporting, school attendance, student and family confidentiality and all other school social work practice issues
- Ensures system and school compliance with enforcement of compulsory attendance law and oversees the educational neglect and truancy petition process for students who have accrued excessive absences
- Coordinates various support activities that provide principals and school social workers information on improving student attendance and other social supports that lead to improved graduation rates and increased college/career readiness
- Reviews and revises Board policies, procedures and departmental guidelines as they pertain to school social work(ers)
- Develops effective communication tools designed to keep schools, parents and community members informed about available school social work and community-based support services
- Plans and collaborates with other academic and student support services departments to provide systemic support to schools and students
- Conducts and analyzes ongoing formative and summative evaluation data for school social work program and ensures appropriate reporting is conducted using various school system and state data utilization tools
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Master’s Degree in Teaching, Service and/or Leadership
Certification/Licensure
Must hold or be eligible for Georgia Teaching or Service certification in applicable area
Leadership Certification strongly preferred
Experience Qualifications
Minimum of five years of successful experience in school social work, social work; experience in system level or school level lead/leadership/administrative role preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a leadership role
- Ability to collaborate with various community agencies
- Ability to effectively communicate with both the public and school personnel
- Ability to plan and implement short and long-range goals and objectives
- Knowledge of Georgia Law, State Board policy and local policy regarding compulsory school attendance, child abuse and neglect and other social work areas
- A background in and thorough knowledge of school social work practice and legal parameters of such
- Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel
- Good decision-making and problem solving skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel Word, and PowerPoint
