Summary
Assists teachers in translating the requirements, standards, and benchmarks into meaningful experiences for students in the school; Assists teachers in organizing and implementing the curriculum for all students; Serves as a coach, model, and trainer for best practices across the curriculum
Essential Duties
- Meets with teachers to interpret and help implement the District curriculum
- Assists all teachers in organizing curriculum and utilizing effective teaching strategies
- Acts as advisor and special consultant to beginning teachers
- Administers the initial screening and evaluation of students new to the school to ensure placement at the appropriate instructional level
- Participates in the selection of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and textbooks
- Assists in the planning of workshops and other professional learning programs for teachers, assistants, parents, and volunteers to help raise the level of student achievement
- Assists the principal in the evaluation of the instructional program, including interpreting assessment results and data analysis to help staff plan for instruction
- Recommends ways in which the curriculum may be adjusted to meet the special learning needs of students
- Participates in District-wide activities such as curriculum writing, assessment development, and strategic planning
- Periodically reviews instructionally-related state statutes and assists the principal in monitoring local school compliance and improvements
- Serves as a liaison between the local school and the curriculum department
- Consults with parents regarding the curriculum and student placement at the request of the principal
- Assists with the inventorying, ordering, and distribution of textbooks, equipment, and other District-level instructional resources, as requested by principal
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Master’s Degree
Certification/Licensure
Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in Early Childhood (P-5)
Reading Specialist certification or Reading Endorsement preferred
Completion of the Fulton County Early Literacy Phonics Pathway preferred
Experience Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of successful elementary teaching experience required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledgeable of the District's overall curriculum goals and experience with techniques to assist teachers and staff in reaching those goals
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups
- Ability to organize programs, personnel, and activities required for productive learning in the school
- Interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with administrators and staff
- Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen, motivate, and provide leadership which results in the best environment
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
- Proven ability to make recommendations on various topics, detailed, controversial, simple, or complex
- Ability to develop implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
