Summary

Provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the Human Resources function including all functions related to selection, evaluation, certification, and assignment of personnel in multiple types of positions.  This role is also consultative – requiring the Human Resources Director to build strong relationships with school leadership and other division leaders that they support.  The Human Resources Director manages all these responsibilities while assuring integration and alignment with other HR functions such as compensation and benefits, employee relations, and other employee services and programs.

Essential Duties

  • Works directly with school-based leadership to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities related to all human resource matters, including the review, placement, and evaluation of staff
  • Interprets and monitors compliance with Board policy, administrative procedures, and human resources guidelines pertaining to all human resource activities and decisions; Recommends revisions of policy, procedure, and guidelines
  • Counsels employees and District leaders through complex human resource issues ensuring counsel is legally sound and based on human resource best practices
  • Ensures legally sound decisions are made surrounding employee due process and disciplinary actions
  • Develops and interprets data and reports to help strategically guide current and future human resource decisions
  • Serves on various District committees as assigned by the Executive Director, Human Resources Operations
  • Provides effective supervision of assigned support personnel
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Human Resources Management or A closely related field
Master's Degree preferred

Certification/Licensure

None required
PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preferred

Experience Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience in Education and/or Human Resources required with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience preferred; Mid to senior level experience in an educational organization preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of Human Resource laws, policies, and practices with emphasis on those laws and policies specific to public schools
  • Knowledge of strategies and best practices associated with sourcing, recruiting, interviewing, selection, development, and employee evaluation
  • Proficiency with HRIS and various computer related applications
  • Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of people and to observe, listen, motivate, and provide leadership which results in the best environment
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  • Proven ability to make recommendations on various topics, detailed, controversial, simple, or complex
  • Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate program goals and initiatives
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities
  • Ability to exercise strict confidence in handling sensitive information
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
