Summary

The Director of JROTC is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the overall management and oversight of all JROTC programs in the District.  The incumbent ensures the effective operation of the JROTC program by developing, managing, and supporting all resources essential to increasing student achievement.   The Director serves as the instructional leader for the program and promotes effective instructional practices through the use of research-based data driven best practices, effective classroom instruction, and program evaluation aligned with accreditation standards.  

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates with District and school officials and US Army Cadet Command to establish procedures relating to the administration, control, and education of students enrolled in the JROTC program as required by District, state and federal regulatory guidelines
  • Develops a District budget and manages Army funds to maximize program effectiveness 
  • Performs administrative and logistical tasks related to JROTC program management which includes: coordinating with all JROTC department personnel to plan, organize, and conduct JROTC extracurricular and co-curricular activities and JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge summer leadership development programs
  • Coordinates teacher professional learning to support classroom implementation of Georgia Department of Education State JROTC standards, standards- based instructional practices, and JROTC Professional Learning Communities 
  • Supervises and collaborates with JROTC headquarters personnel and Instructors to effectively and efficiently manage all aspects of the JROTC Program
  • Develops and maintains a consolidated supply operation for Army JROTC units in the District, accounting for all government property issued to the units
  • Must comply with all expectations outlined in Cadet Command Regulation 145-2 for a Director of Army Instruction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Master’s Degree

Certification/Licensure

Must hold JROTC US Army Cadet Command Certification and be eligible to hold an Army JROTC Permit with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission

Experience Qualifications

Must be honorably retired from the United States Army with a retired rank of Lieutenant Colonel or Colonel; Experience working with youth preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Experience working with youth and culturally diverse groups
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Working Conditions

  • May require work in inclement weather
