Summary
Provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the Special Education programs to provide instructional services to students with disabilities, preschool through grade 12; Ensures compliance with all State and Federal Laws, State Department of Education Rules and Regulations, and Fulton County Board of Education Policies where applicable
Essential Duties
- Provides direction, leadership, and accountability in the curriculum development and implementation of instructional and related services for students with disabilities
- Develops and implements appropriate instructional services for students with disabilities
- Plans, implements, and conducts evaluation of staff development activities appropriate for personnel assigned to Special Education programs
- Conducts program planning and evaluation activities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness the District’s Special Education programs
- Prepares an annual budget for instructional and related services for students with disabilities including District and school-based expenditures; Develops enrollment projections for budget planning
- Assists with the development and implementation of the Continuous Improvement Plan for Special Education which addresses District goals and departmental priorities
- Oversees coordination of services for students with disabilities assigned to the psycho-educational centers
- Determines the District’s needs relating to textbooks, testing instruments and protocols, equipment, etc., for implementation of Special Education programs
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Master’s Degree in Special Education
Certification/Licensure
Must hold or be eligible for Georgia Teaching Certification in applicable subject area
Leadership Certification strongly preferred
Experience Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of supervisory and/or administrative experience and 3 additional years of classroom teaching experience required; Prior experience with curriculum development, evaluation, assessment, and implementation of instructional and related services for exceptional children
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to organize programs, personnel, and activities required for productive learning in the school
- Knowledge of the policies and regulations of the Fulton County Board of Education, as well as, State and Federal rules and regulations related to Special Education
- Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of people and to observe, listen, motivate, and provide leadership which results in the best environment
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
- Ability to manage financial, material, and human resources effectively
- Proven ability to make recommendations on various topics, detailed, controversial, simple, or complex
- Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate program goals and initiatives
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities
- Ability to exercise strict confidence in handling sensitive information
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
