Environmental Technician

Summary

Inspects all Fulton County school buildings for cleanliness, appearance, sanitation, energy conservation, indoor air quality, and maintenance needs; On-call 24 hours for emergency situations

Essential Duties

  • Conducts frequent inspections of buildings for discrepancies in cleanliness, sanitation, energy conservation, indoor air quality, maintenance, and safety
  • Works closely with building administrators and other system personnel to resolve environmental issues
  • Assists in the development and presentation of custodial related training techniques and methods
  • Serves as one of the primary sources of technical know-how for cleaning techniques, methods, equipment, and chemicals
  • Prepares and distributes inspection reports to appropriate parties Identifies/recommends opportunities for improvement in building cleaning/maintenance and other environmental related issues
  • Assists in ongoing testing of custodial equipment, chemicals, and supplies
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Certification/Licensure

Must have a valid driver license and be insurable by Fulton County Schools' insurance carriers

Experience Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience in custodial operations

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledgeable of the current techniques, methods, equipment, and chemicals used in custodial work
  • Thorough knowledge of all facets of custodial operations
  • Broad experience in HVAC and the design, operation, and maintenance of other building systems
  • Understanding of factors that influence indoor air quality and the techniques utilized in investigating IAQ problems
  • Must be customer-focused and be able to relate well with senior level administrators, faculty, staff, and students
  • Must be computer literate
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal

  • Various work locations in offices and schools

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to walk extensively, climb stairs, scaffolds and ladders
  • Ability to discern sounds clearly
  • Ability to work standing or sitting for extended periods of time
