Summary

The Executive Director of Accounting provides leadership direction and day to day supervision and management for all activities related to the management of the District’s Accounting, Accounts Payable, and School-Based Accounting departments.   

Essential Duties

  • Directs and supervises all activities associated with the Accounting, Accounts Payable and School-Based Accounting departments 
  • Advises and works with the Chief Financial Officer in planning and implementing the financial goals and operational procedures of the District
  • Coordinates with various department heads in providing necessary accounting and reporting to meet the management needs of the District and to meet the requirements of outside regulatory agencies in the following areas:
    • Annual and interim financial reports and extracts
    • State and Federal financial reports
    • State and Federal Tax requirements and reporting
    • Actual and budget comparison reports
  • Coordinates the annual fiscal year financial and single audits of the district.
  • Coordinates other external audits of the District
  • Attends regular and called meetings of the Board
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator 

Required Education

Master’s Degree in Accounting from a AASCB, ACBSP or ACBE accredited college or university or In lieu of Master Degree, will consider Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 9 years mid to senior level experience working in school finance or related financial areas

Certification/Licensure

CPA preferred

Experience Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of supervisory and/or administrative experience and 3 additional years of experience working in school finance or related financial areas

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of Fulton County School System policy and procedures and State laws regulating local school systems
  • Knowledge of State Board of Education rules and regulations and accounting and reporting requirement of other State and Federal agencies which impact local school systems
  • Thorough knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate financial problems and to compile related financial data
  • Knowledge of banking procedures with respect to government funds and school district operations
  • Knowledge of accounts payable principles and practices
  • Knowledge of School Based Accounting principles and practices
  • Strong decision-making ability, budget experience, proven performance and resource management skills
  • Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement short and long range objectives
  • Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen and provide leadership which results in the best possible work environment
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
