Summary

Provides safe, comfortable environments for building occupants by overseeing daily maintenance operations and supervising maintenance personnel as assigned to the foreman’s cluster area; Serves as first contact for area superintendents, principals, assistant principals, and head custodians from schools in the assigned cluster; This position is on-call on a 24-hours basis for emergency operations and routine call assignments

Essential Duties

  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining existing physical plants for the District in a safe, comfortable condition on a daily basis by making expedient, sound decisions relating to maintenance operations and development of appropriate resources to meet building needs
  • Coordinates the daily scheduling of all work requests within the designated clusters on a priority basis by assigning and evaluating the workloads of maintenance personnel to ensure work is performed in a timely manner
  • Reviews work orders and other performance data on a regular basis to ensure that applicable standards and benchmarks are achieved
  • Practices and recommends preventive maintenance techniques to prolong the life cycle of existing buildings and equipment
  • Performs site visits/building inspections on a regular basis and consults with school principals, other administrators, and building managers regarding maintenance needs; Solicits continuous improvement feedback
  • Maintains building system records in hard copy or electronic format
  • Assists in managing the affairs of the department in a fair, equitable manner that promotes positive employee moral
  • Assists in providing special training as needed for the maintenance personnel
  • Practices and communicates standards of safety in the work place and especially around students
  • Monitors departmental practices, supplies, and expenditures for efficient use of resources
  • Maintains a customer-focused perspective and promotes a positive outlook while communicating effectively with school personnel, superiors, subordinates, peers, vendors, and the public
  • Assists in the recommendation of competent personnel for open positions
  • Assists in long-range planning and budget preparation
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience (2 years of similar work level experience = 1 year of college); A combination of experience and education may be used to meet the Associate's Degree requirement

Certification/Licensure

Valid Driver License required

Experience Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience in construction or maintenance working with various trades required; Experience in a supervisory or lead role preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must possess Journeyman's level knowledge of structural, mechanical, and electrical systems in school plants including extensive knowledge of maintenance techniques, building materials and tools of the various maintenance trades
  • Must be able to effectively use a computer as a tool for communication and data access, including familiarity with work order programs
  • Must have the skills to effectively lead, organize and direct the work of others
  • Must be able to assist in the development and implementation of long-range planning
  • Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Physical Demands

  • Exerting up to 100lbs force occasionally and/or up to 50lbs force frequently
  • Exerting up to 20lbs force constantly
  • Requires balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions
