Summary

Supports the school-based Literacy School Improvement Coaches, Title I schools and the Title I Department in the coordination of achievement to improve the quality of teaching and student learning activities in reading and language arts, specifically the school’s areas of need as determined through the implementation of Common Core Georgia Performance Standards and state/national assessments. Incumbent in this position may work up to an additional 15 days as deemed necessary

Essential Duties

  • Develops and implements a well-articulated professional learning plan to help school-based Literacy School Improvement Coaches better understand the use of data and Common Core Georgia Performance Standards, tailored instructional strategies and best practices to improve instruction and increase student achievement
  • Supports school-based Literacy School Improvement Coaches and Title I schools to improve implementation of the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards
  • Demonstrates effective use of data analyses to design instructional strategies and facilitation of improved mentoring techniques to increase student achievement
  • Conducts monthly professional learning experiences for school-based Literacy School Improvement Coaches on best instructional practices to increase student achievement
  • Provides on-going support to school-based Literacy School Improvement Coaches in effective teaching strategies and best instructional practices to achieve desired student learning outcomes
  • Assists school-based Literacy School Improvement Coaches in planning and implementing school-based professional development for Literacy teachers
  • Analyzes student data and advises school-based Literacy School Improvement Coaches and appropriate staff of trends, outcomes, needs and effective practices;
  • Recommends changes in current practices, approaches, methods strategies and assessments as needed
  • Works with Title I principals, area superintendents, Learning Communities teams and the Title I Department as required for the development and implementation of Title I plans and budget requirements
  • Performs other Title I duties as assigned by the Title I Grant Manager

Required Education

Master’s Degree in Education

Certification/Licensure

Must hold or be eligible to hold Georgia Certification in Elementary, Middle Grades, or Secondary Education in a related core academic content area
Completion of the Fulton County Early Literacy Phonics Pathway preferred

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of acceptable experience as defined by the Georgia Professional Standards commission required; At least 2 years in an administrative or supervisory capacity preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must demonstrate an effective use of various assessment data and instructional strategies to improve instruction and assist other educators in becoming quality instructors
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting high quality professional learning experiences
  • Must be able to perform data analysis and interpretation of formal and informal assessments as required to design intervention instructional strategies
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective use of SAMS, databases, and trend analysis reports that impact student learning in the classroom
  • Demonstrate effective team facilitation and leadership skills to move individuals and groups toward the goal of high student achievement
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  • Ability to work with collaborative teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with students, parents, administrators and staff
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
