Maintenance Mechanic II, Plumber

Summary

Performs skilled work associated with the plumbing trade. This position is on-call on a 24-hour basis for emergency operations.

Essential Duties

  • Utilizes schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to locate and diagnose trouble in the plumbing systems; assemble, install and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of water heating per state code requirements 
  • Utilizes schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to locate and diagnose trouble in the system or equipment
  • Applies skills, experience, and general knowledge to complete the maintenance, repair and installation tasks associated with the plumbing systems including the removal of obstructions from drainage systems
  • Utilizes appropriate tools to check systems and draws upon expertise for diagnosis and emergency repairs
  • Adjusts, repairs, and releases equipment, fixtures, and components
  • Installs new equipment
  • Uses shop machinery, testing equipment, tools, and safety practices as appropriate for trade to complete assigned tasks
  • Provides on-the-job training for less skilled assistants
  • Supports rotating on-call duty schedule for after-hours emergency response  
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
     

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED in In lieu of Diploma or GED will consider a minimum of 3 years of comparable experience

Certification/Licensure

Journeyman or Masters Un-Restricted Plumbing License preferred
Must have a valid driver license and be insurable by Fulton County Schools' insurance carriers

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience required; 1 year of experience in commercial plumbing preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Working knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade
  • Skilled in use of hand and power tools, large equipment and attachments related to the trade
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal
  • Must be able to work variable shifts

Working Conditions

  • Regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles
  • Regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness, and/or humidity
  • Must be able to work from tall ladders, scaffolds, lifts and bucket trucks

Physical Demands

  • Typically requires climbing ladders, pushing and/or pulling
  • May require high degree of precision working with minimum tolerances
  • May require stooping, crawling, and bending
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry for short distances
