Program Specialist, Assessment
Summary
The Assessment Program Specialist is responsible for planning and providing support, resources, and professional learning to schools in support of the District-wide implementation of effective assessment practices, including assessment literacy, assessment development, formative instructional practices, and data-driven instruction.
Note: This position is grant-funded and thereby staffed year-to-year
Essential Duties
- Supports District and school-based staff in the implementation of effective assessment practices:
- Develops and leads the implementation of resources and protocols for data-driven instruction
- Designs and delivers professional learning on all aspects of assessment, including, but not limited to:
- Assessment design and development
- Instructional planning
- Balanced assessment
- Formative instructional practices
- Assessment leadership
- Data analysis and action decision making
- Creates and executes individualized support plans for schools identified by District leadership
- Manages and provides user support for assessment technologies
- Responds to technical questions
- Troubleshoots platform issues
- Works in collaboration with other departments to:
- Builds and maintains valid and reliable District assessments
- Ensures high-quality assessment practices drive instruction in all content areas
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Certification/Licensure
Experience Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience required; 3 years of leadership experience preferred; Prior experience with leading the implementation of balanced assessment practices and professional staff development preferred; Experience using assessment technologies (e.g. Illuminate) preferred; Experience working within a large, complex organization preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Detailed knowledge and experience with developing balanced assessment plans, building standards-based assessments, and using data to inform instruction
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners across multiple assessment topics and grade levels
- Knowledge of basic concepts of psychometrics, including reliability, validity, and fairness
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously to meet short-term objectives and long-term goals
- Demonstrated ability to implement cycles of continuous improvement and develop innovative solutions that address challenges
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders, including district/school administrators, teachers, and/or community members
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Working Conditions
