Summary

The Program Specialist for Compliance will provide leadership and coordinate compliance activities system-wide at the school- based level for Services for Exceptional Children. The person in this position will assist the Coordinator of Compliance with coordinating and evaluating compliance operations. This role will also provide support to schools regarding compliance issues governing programs for exceptional children, which includes planning professional development opportunities concerning EC Program compliance for FCS staff. The Program Specialist for Compliance will be responsible for attending IEP meetings/events as the LEA representative and ensuring that the District’s IEPs and special education records are compliant with federal and state guidelines.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates, develops, plans and facilitates professional development concerning compliance topics identified as needed by schools
  • Assist schools with building level EC compliance issues
  • Advises and consults with school administrators and staff, and on individual cases and local policies, procedures, and practices as they relate to compliance
  • Prepares and presents reports, data and the needed correspondence regarding Exceptional Children compliance issues
  • Represents the District in IEP meetings when appropriate to ensure compliance with the IDEA and local policies
  • Acts as a liaison between the school and Coordinator of Compliance and Director of Administrative Services to assist with preparation for any court cases or formal complaints on issues relating to students with disabilities, including IDEA
  • Assists Coordinator of Compliance with ensuring that special education student records are maintained appropriately with the guidelines set by the IDEA, state rules, and FERPA
  • Assists Coordinator of Compliance with ensuring that the District’s IEP process is appropriate and conducted with fidelity according to the IDEA and state rules governing special education
  • Maintains current and professional expertise on the history, evaluation, development, and on-going procedural and legal activities related to IDEA
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field

Certification/Licensure

None required

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of supervision and/or consultation in special education policies, procedures, and issues required

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally
