Program Specialist, Pre-K

Summary

Under direction from the Coordinator, Early Childhood, the Program Specialist for Pre-K will provide instructional coaching and coordination for the planning, implementation, and assessment of curriculum and instructional initiatives related to improvement in Early Childhood Education.  The incumbent in this position will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all State and Federal Laws, State Department of Education Rules and Regulations and Fulton County Board of Education Policies where applicable.

Essential Duties

  • Assists teachers in implementing effective standards-based instruction using research based instructional strategies
  • Provides continuous coaching and support focused on the implementation of research based instructional strategies to teachers
  • Assists administrators in supporting, training, and coaching teachers in standards based instruction
  • Designs, develops, and delivers high quality professional learning focused on standards-based instruction to administrators and teachers
  • Identifies resources and supports teachers with differentiation
  • Collaborates and supports the School Readiness initiative of the Early Childhood Department
  • Works in collaboration with other departments and areas to maximize teacher effectiveness as it relates to instruction in Pre-K classrooms
  • Monitors, supports, and ensures compliance with local and state auditing requirements
  • Works with schools to develop appropriate budget needs and requests as outlined in the grant and monitors school inventories to ensure state and federal compliance
  • Actively participates in Strategic Collaboration with the Early Childhood Department and across other departments including Services for Exceptional Children
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or a related field

Certification/Licensure

Must hold, or be eligible to hold a valid and clear teaching certificate in the area of Elementary Education

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience required; Prior experience with standards-based instruction and professional development required; Experience with instructional coaching and the coaching cycle preferred; Experience working with school improvement process at a school or District level preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of literacy development in children birth to 5 and K-12
  • Knowledge of social and emotional development in children birth to 5
  • Ability to analyze, develop, implement, monitor, evaluate and track program goals and initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners across multiple disciplines and levels
  • Demonstrated knowledge in differentiation and meeting the needs of varied learners
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  • Ability to work in collaborative teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with administrators, staff, and community members
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
