Summary

The Program Specialist for Professional Learning is responsible for supporting student achievement throughout the school system and specifically the assigned Learning Community by developing and delivering professional learning programs for teachers and administrators related to instructional strategies and curriculum resources that increase teacher efficacy and student learning.

Essential Duties

  • Designs and implements professional learning to support school system initiatives and implementation of state and federally mandated programs and laws
  • Designs and implements professional learning that is aligned to employees’ identified Performance Management needs and goals
  • Provides input and guidance regarding professional learning in school strategic plans, and specifically to support schools and the assigned Learning Community in meeting achievement goals
  • Develops presentations using a variety of innovative media and technology
  • Manages logistics of professional learning programs such as dates, locations, schedules, announcements, requirements, materials and supplies, presenter preparation and other administrative details
  • Develops and organizes professional learning materials
  • Recruits, trains, and monitors internal and external training consultants
  • Designs and delivers interactive learning
  • Collaborates with leadership in the Learning and Teaching division in development of needed professional learning
  • Collaborates with other departments and areas to maximize teacher and leader effectiveness
  • Develops and delivers courses for re-delivery by system or school-level trainers to classroom teachers; including presentation graphics, explanatory notes, and instructions for activities, and materials to be reproduced for teacher professional learning
  • Monitors and evaluates assigned programs
  • Maintains data and records needed to make District-wide programming and funding decisions
  • Makes presentations on behalf of and represents the school system at regional, state and national venues
  • Performs other allowable Title IIA duties as assigned

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business Administration or A closely related field

Certification/Licensure

Valid and clear teaching certificate preferred
Leadership Certification preferred

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience with professional staff development required; Experience working within a large, complex organization preferred; Experience leading a team either at a grade level, subject area, or for a specific project preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners across multiple disciplines and levels
  • Demonstrated knowledge in differentiation and meeting the needs of varied adult learners
  • Ability to plan and implement short and long-range goals and objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with Learning Communities, administrators, staff, and community members
  • Ability to work with collaborative teams
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing

Working Conditions

  • Normal office and school environment
  • Will require travel between schools and administrative offices
