Specialist II, Risk Management
Summary
The Specialist II is responsible for providing day-to-day oversight and performing a wide range of professional work in any one of a variety of specialized areas within Risk Management. The incumbent in this position will assess and address all claims except workers’ compensation, administer the District’s Insurance programs and assists in the review of contracts for adequate insurance. The Risk Management Specialist II may have some supervisory responsibility of a clerical position.
Essential Duties
- Works with insurance programs to recommend District process improvements by using educational programs and safety checklists to reinforce sound insurance risk management
- Assists in the procurement and contracting process for District insurance policies by educating contracting personnel on insurance requirements and reviewing contract documents before they are executed to ensure insurance requirements are met
- Reviews all District contracts for adequate insurance provisions
- Reviews and approves Certificates of Insurance (COI) as required by schools and departments for correctness and accuracy
- Maintains District insurance files to provide proof of insurance when needed and serves as primary contact for all District insurance programs
- Administers the Risk Management Information System (RMIS) and maintains relevant data within RMIS
- Receives and responds either verbally or in writing to inquiries from employees, departmental leadership, and other staff
- Serves as a primary point of contact for internal and external inquiries regarding other software systems used in conjunction with FCS systems
- Develops and conducts presentations/trainings for other departmental leadership and staff relevant to area of responsibility
- Manages the District’s Defensive Driving Program
- Provides incident, claim information, report(s) as required by Executive staff, and outside parties
- Researches and recommends new processes, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of the department and services performed
- Undertakes projects as assigned by Executive Staff to support organizational initiatives
- Establishes and maintains files and documents as required by State and Federal Laws, State Department of Education Rules and Regulations, and Fulton County Board of Education Policies, where applicable
- Generates reports for Executive Staff as required
- Serves as a member of cross-functional committees
- Attends trainings/conferences to keep abreast of current laws, trends, and best practices, as applicable
- Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator

Certification/Licensure
Experience Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience working in Risk Management or related field required (Risk Management, Claims; Workers’ Comp, Insurance); Experience with SAP or other major Enterprise system preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of laws, trends, and best practices relevant to assigned area of responsibility
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with District and school personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people
- Proven ability to handle confidential information
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
