Summary

The Supervisor of Maintenance provides direct supervision for the maintenance shop Foremen and assists the Coordinator of Maintenance in implementing the maintenance program for all District buildings, grounds and mechanical-electrical-plumbing (MEP) systems and equipment.  The incumbent in this position will employ this knowledge to ensure suitable mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) components and system design requirements are met when equipment is repaired or replaced. This position is on-call on a 24-hour basis for emergency operations. 

Essential Duties

  • Ensures that existing Fulton County School System building structures, grounds and MEP equipment is maintained in a safe and comfortable condition by recommending expedient, sound decisions relating to maintenance and repairs
  • Practices preventive maintenance techniques to prolong the life cycle of MEP systems and equipment
  • Assists in initiating  solicitation and renewal of preventive maintenance and time-materials contracts
  • Performs site visits and maintains a customer-focused perspective while communicating effectively with school personnel, superiors, subordinates, peers, vendors
  • Directs actions of the Maintenance Foremen as necessary to ensure the assignment of all work requests on a priority basis, evaluating the workload of foremen, tradesmen, secretaries, etc., to ensure work is performed in a timely manner
  • Reviews Maintenance Orders to verify maintenance work is being properly documented and that job status is updated and administratively closed out upon completion.
  • Conducts field visits to job sites in schools and other buildings, performing safety and quality checks and serving as a liaison with Principals and other building administrator
  • Maintains building system records in hard copy or electronic formats
  • Engages in front-line coordination of the day-to-day activities of the District maintenance shop
  • Provides on-site supervision and oversight of contractors working under preventive maintenance and time materials conract
  • Monitors departmental practices, supplies and expenditures for efficient use of resources
  • Practices and communicates FCS safety culture in the workplace
  • Recommends competent personnel for open positions
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience (Total of 4 years - 2 years of similar work level experience = 1 year of college) A combination of experience and education may be used to meet the Associate’s Degree requirement

Certification/Licensure

Valid Driver License required
Must be insurable with good driving record

Experience Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of supervisory and/or administrative related experience and  3 additional years of related experience required or equivalent military service positions

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must have the skills to effectively lead, organize and direct the work of others
  • Must have the capacity to understand and work with personnel under his/her supervision, as well as with administrative personnel
  • Professional understanding of buildings, grounds and MEP systems and equipment found in school buildings
  • Must be able to assist in the development and implementation of long-range planning
  • Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate program goals and initiatives
  • Able to read and interpret schematic and construction drawings
  • Good computer skills, including database creation and management
  • Good decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to climb ladders and work from scaffolds
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances
  • Must be able to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor
